Can Tanca is a single-family home in Ibiza designed by architect Alvaro Martínez Gil, who is committed to sustainability and energy self-sufficiency, enabling it to operate completely disconnected from the electricity and water networks.

The house, with a floor area of 210 m2, is built on a single storey and has a bioclimatic design that, thanks to new technologies, allows it to minimise energy demand, achieving self-sufficiency.

The house has a set of photovoltaic panels on the roof that cover energy demand.

The structure of the house is entirely timber-framed, with the exception of the foundation, which comes from sustainably managed forests, minimising the carbon footprint of the construction.

It also has a highly energy-efficient envelope, with thick wood-fibre insulation on both the facade and the roof.

This ensures that the house is well insulated, despite the generous windows that flood the interior space with natural light and feature high-performance joinery that guarantees total airtightness.

These windows are protected by the installation of automated external blinds or a front-facing pergola covered with deciduous plants depending on the orientation, which allow correct control of the incidence of sunlight on the windows at any time of the year.

The interior finishes retain the same immaculate white, which in this case contrasts with the bamboo flooring, another natural material that helps to improve indoor air quality and the healthiness of the home.
